What It’s Like to Train at DNPT
Push open the door to one of our Wimbledon studios and you’re opening the door on a unique training experience – because it’s all been built around you.
After we began with a thorough chat through all aspects of how to do things just right for you and your goals – your coach is not just training anyone – they are coaching you. That maybe progressively building your comfort , condition and confidence or challenging you to give that extra 10% you just couldn’t do alone. Not everyone thrives under too much pressure , yet others come for exactly that. You are you and we are experienced, friendly and professional. What greets you inside a DNPT studio – is exactly what we decided together you will thrive on.
This perfectly pitched session is happening all around you , fun to your left, technicality to your right, sensitivity here and intense challenge over there. Everyone 1:1 duo enjoying the unique character of that 1:1 relationship and the part of the journey that the client and coach are currently at.
Depending on your time of day , it may be quiet or vibrant – but never overcrowded. Our private studios are capacity managed and busy times have a great upbeat vibe, while quiet is personal and private.
What greets you inside is a dedicated space for our community of clients and trainers. Trainers you recongise. Once in the gym you are into the action.
Look one way and you might catch Stephen coaching someone technically through the first pull of a deadlift, breaking down the exact moment the bar leaves the floor (inertia breaking). Twenty years and a strength and conditioning expertise go into instructions that keep levelling up, as you progress.
Look the other way and it’s a different mood entirely: that’s likely Chris H, who left a career in engineering for this, running a circuit that as well clearly being an effective workout , also looks a lot like two friends catching up between the bouts of exertion. The chat and laughter does not interrupt the workout, but it makes it a brilliant hour and a great example of how engaging 1:1 PT can be.
Somewhere else in the room, Denzil’s walking a first-timer through their opening weeks, no assumptions made about what they already know or should be able to do. He played basketball before he ever coached, he has an athletes pedigree and a gentle patient way about him that makes him perfect either for someone just starting out or someone with their eyes on ‘the next level. Often as time passes – that’s the same person. A client who was guided well through the beginning and now enjoys the challenges of later stages.
Further in, the specialism shifts again. Alfio might be working pads with someone, drawing on years as a Muay Thai martial artist before he ever became a trainer.
Joana’s with a sports science background and international experience is characterised with a steady structured method. Sometimes you will catch her running a whole session running in Portuguese. Or overhear Dan or Chris in fluent French.
Craig and Conor are intrinsic DNPT longterm Team members. If PT has many levels and layers these guys are both natural and studied. Legends of the gym and SW19. Expert isn’t the word.
Callum a natural leader and accomplished sports person, is humble, friendly calm and structured.
Jordan boxes as an amateur and is as structured as they come – he likes his training well planned and purposeful. Get to know him and his wicked sense of humour will show itself too.
Eighteen trainers work across the different studios, and no two of them coach quite the same way. Any one of them can understand how to adapt things to you – but still there is one who is just right, a natural match for your 1:1 coach on their own skills, personality and session style .
On any given morning you could be standing a few feet from someone who’s trained here for six years and someone on their first session ever, each one getting a different session depending on what they wlll thrive on.
The studios are private and small by design, nothing like a warehouse-sized facility. I’m blunt about the contrast: there aren’t two thousand people fighting over one dumbbell here, no hangar-sized floor with someone lost in their own headphones, training alone in a room full of strangers.
Three or four people train might be training at once in one of our gym rooms.
A short video shot inside the studio follows real sessions as they happened, with reflections from three clients, Sam, Philipa and Julien, on their own path from a beginner starting point to where they are now.
If this sounds like the kind of training you’re after, email me at dan@dnpt.co.uk or visit personaltrainersinwimbledon.com to book a free consultation, and come see the studio for yourself before deciding anything.
